OHSAS 18001:2007 has been replaced by ISO 45001:2018 Certification Standard. However you can go for the OHSAS 18001 Certification till 12th March 2021, but it is advisable to go for ISO 45001 Certification.

What is ISO 45001 Certification  (OH&SMS)?

ISO 45001 is a newly published international Management system standard for Occupational Health and Safety. It outlines the requirements for Occupational Health and Safety Management system for the occupants in the premises. This ISO 45001 Certification is applicable to all the types and size of the organization and the main aim of this standard is to establish the safe and healthy environment and prevent the ill health and regular and continual improvement of the occupational health and safety Management system performance. ISO 45001 Standard will replace OHSAS 18001 Certification in over a period of 3 years and hence will become the next international standard for occupational health and safety.

1. Learn about ISO 45001 Certification

2. Perform Gap Analysis

5. Documented your system

6. Implement the Management system

7. Perform Internal Audits

8. Prepare for the audit

Now when all the above steps are completed, the application for the ISO 45001 certification will be required to be filled for registration. Once the ISO 45001 (OHSMS) registration is done, the auditor will come for the audit of the ISO system documented and implemented. Once they find all the system as per the requirements of ISO 45001 Certification are in place, they shall recommend your system to be in compliance of the ISO 45001 standard and shall send your report to the accreditation board for review and issue of final ISO 45001 Standard certificate.

9. Continually improve your ISO 45001  Standard Occupational Health and management System

There are frequent ISO 45001 Standard surveillance audits also involved in the ISO 45001 certification. This frequency can be Six Monthly, Nine Monthly or yearly. The ISO 45001 Certification  system needs to be maintained to keep the records of the system being monitored and maintained as the whole system is liable to be verified during the ISO 45001 certification surveillance audits.
